26th & 27th October 2002
Actorsworkshop were asked to artistically manage the creation, rehearsals and performances of Arnold Ridley's The Ghost Train on site at Gwili Steam Railway's site in Carmarthen.
Brief:
We were hired to provide an all en-compassing event from the moment the audience arrived. The aim for Actorsworkshop was to give the workshop members a new and exciting experience, which challenged audience expectations.
Production Notes:
A fully site-specific event encompassing the existing resources of the steam railway. The audience boarded a period train amongst the actors, who were in full 1930’s period dress. During the journey the characters maintained their presence as they were take to the performance space. Over the three performances South Wales experienced severe storm conditions completely destroying the set and damaging the lighting rig. Undeterred, we rebuilt the set and the rig inside a carriage shed (having first removed the carriage) before performing again that evening. The capacity was slightly reduced for the second night of our sell out two-days, but the audience did not notice the slight change of venue and newly fixed setting.
