Actorsworkshop Needs You!

20 Feb 2007

For 2007 Actorsworkshop have identified a number of projects for members and communities around Wales that they'd like to undertake.

Performance Projects and Chances to apply for directing practice projects:

Actorsworkshop plan to take the workshop experience further. Workshops are the best place to learn, challenge and develop your training, but in order to cement the work undertaken we reccommend professional development experiences in a professionally supported production process.

In 2003 we undertook a pilot project funded by the Arts Council of Wales called "Inspired By Brecht", which combined a unique training experience with the Good Person of Szechwan production. More details of this production can be found under our production pages on the The Good Person of Szechwan.

We have held meetings with potential funders for a continuation of this production model and have been given an informal agreement to seek funding from them for a further project looking to continue the professional development and provide opportunities for further collaborations and performances.

We have held numerous discussions with our members and been told that our current membership would like to be provided with a performance based development experience. Jamie Lee, Actorsworkshop's Artistic Director, who is currently looking at appropriate schemes said "In order for us to prove to our funders that the need we experience every week, week in week out, is real we need those community members to get in touch. In workshops they make a compelling case for more opportunities for further training. We now need them to get in touch and provide us with written evidence that we can then present to make our case".

"Its up to those members and any communities interested to help", Jamie continued, "if we can get everyone who has spoken to us about on-going professional development to write to us about it, then we would have an impressive dossier of support, and this is our current focus."

David Wilson, Business Director of Actorsworkshop, agreed with Jamie Lee and added "the project in 2003 was an outstanding success, and its important for us to build on this, we are also inviting members of the original project to get in touch (as we will be calling them soon) to help us provide support material about how the project has helped them, which is again an important factor. Three members of the cast went onto drama schools, two individuals managed to secure semi-professional contracts and Rachael Miller our technical participant went onto study at RADA and is now at Dundee Rep. These projects are vital for development but without demonstratable benefits or a community that can help us provide evidence it is difficult to convince funders that its a worthy cause. This is why we are asking our members to help us, by putting pen to paper, and its an opportunity for them to tell us individually what they want".

The Actorsworkshop team will be available in workshops to discuss the project with members and answer any questions you may have, or simply get in touch via the website or by emailing info@actorsworkshop.co.uk
