Styne Symposium passes and 2-for-1 on Gypsy

24 Oct 2006

As part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre, Actorsworkshop are proud to announce that we have negotiated free tickets for Actorsworkshop members to the Jule Styne Symposium on Sunday 29th at the Wales Millennium Centre at 11am.

Following on from the successful Sondheim day at the 2005 Festival, this year we have a symposium on the work of Jule Styne, climaxing with our concert performance of Gypsy. Jule Styne wrote 1500 songs during a seven decade career. His collaborators include Sammy Cahn, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Stephen Sondheim and Frank Loesser – the musical theatre greats of the 20th century. He wrote both musicals and the hit songs of the period. The day will include a masterclass and panel discussions with experts from the field of Musical Theatre from both sides of the Atlantic, hosted by Mark Rowles, and including renowned theatrical writer Robert Kimball.CIFMT Please Email info@actorsworkshop.co.uk to register your interest!

Also a Two - For - One on Gypsy Tickets

Gypsy is one of the world’s best known and most loved musicals, and is coming to Wales Millennium Centre for one night only as part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre (the festival that also presented this year’s performance of Guys And Dolls to audiences). Starring Helena Blackman (runner-up of the BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?) and musicals veteran Julia McKenzie (Fresh Fields), this once-in-a-lifetime performance is the first major presentation of the musical in the UK in over 25 years.

The story of the burlesque stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, and her overbearing, ambitious mother’s dreams to make her a star of the stage, Gypsy was written by – and is presented in tribute to - famed musical writer Jules Styne (with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim). Featuring classic songs such as Everything’s Coming Up Roses, Let Me Entertain You and Some People, Gypsy promises to be an evening of musical theatre that you will never forget.
